    The 12-String Chapman Stick
    Story & Performance

A Performance by Bob Culberston, Virtuoso

    Monday 6 PM • MARCH 9TH, 2026

Bob has performed and taught seminars around the world: across America, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia, Mexico, and Central America.

Bob Culberston will perform, demonstrate, and describe the Chapman stick, a 12-string bass and guitar, all in one. He will also demonstrate the Hand Pan from Switzerland, the Digeridoo from Australia, and the Shruti Box from India. Culbertson is famous not only for his technique, which allows him to play three to four parts simultaneously (e.g., bass line, chords, and melody), but also for his compositional talent.

His musical style ranges from world sounds of Celtic, Spanish, Eastern and Classical to Blues and Beatles. Bob began playing the Stick 40 years ago when introduced to the instrument by its inventor, Emmett Chapman. In 2015, Bob co-authored with Dan Chapman “The Chapman Stick Book” a full color book about the instruments, Emmett Chapman, and the influences on the music world. Together with Emmett Chapman and luthier Craig Anderson they created the AcouStick, the first acoustical Stick instrument! He has also authored the definitive video Stick course for Stick Enterprises, titled Lessons on the Stick.
